Our final night of the year was a coffee and entertainment evening with the Maybole Concert Party who gave us a great programme of singing, dancing and some joke telling. A well attended night was rounded off with a delicious supper and a great raffle.
Our new season starts on Wed 24th September in the Carrick Buildings. Look forward to seeing you all then. All welcome.
The club AGM was held before our final demonstration for this session. Moira, club chair gave her annual report followed by a favourable treasurers report. She went on to thank Edna as secretary for all her work and thanks also went to the rest of the committee for their help throughout the year.
Our demonstrator for the evening was Karen from Flowers by Karen Kilmarnock who gave a a very inspiring demonstration showing us how to "think outside the box" a little. We had 5 wonderful arrangements using wonderful plant material and flowers which were all raffled at the end of the evening with 6 ladies going home very happy.
Our final night 25th June is a coffee evening with entertainment from the Maybole concert party. Tickets are £5 and available from Girvan Pet Store. Another good evening is in store for you all.
The evening ended with a welcome cup of tea and of course cakes!
Our April meeting was a Spring basket practical night. 24 members attended and everyone produced a beautiful arrangement and each one different. These nights are always a good mix of chat and arranging at the same time and enjoyed by all.
The club held their first meeting of 2025 in Carrick Buildings. Some of our own members did a couple of demonstrations and some members made arrangements especially for the night. Some of the arrangements were themed as follows, "Songs of Rabbie Burns", "Springtime" and "Puppy in a basket".
A very pleasant night was enjoyed by all, followed by the raffle and a welcome cuppa and cake!.
Our next meeting will be in the same venue on Wednesday 26th February which will be a Daisy Drive.
Our flower club held a practical night where members brought along their own vase/container and flowers and just did their own thing. Each and every one of them was different. Always a good night and proves we can all talk and arrange at the same time!
The club started the 24/25 season in our new location of Carrick Buildings, in style with Mima Telfer from Dumfries with her demonstration entitled "Flourishing Finds". Mina showed us what can be achieved using sustainable and recycled containers in a very inventive way and with great humour. Nearly all the arrangements could quite easily be made by just looking in our cupboards or blue bins for water retaining containers. Mina ended her demonstration with a very funny poem which she had written herself. After the raffle a welcome cup of tea and a cake was enjoyed by all.
The club decided that CAN, Carrick Action Network, would be our chosen charity and Violet Conor attended to accept a cheque for £350 on behalf of the group.
Following the Club’s AGM and the voting in of the new season’s Office Bearers, the May meeting saw Christine Logan of Ayr return to the Girvan club with her ‘Following the Seasons’ demonstration.
The demonstration was well received by all in attendance who were entertained throughout the evening by Christine’s flower arranging and storytelling. We followed her beautiful floral depictions of Spring, The Eurovision, The Chelsea Show, The Races at Ascot and the Derby before The Olympics finale. Christine’s bubbly character was perfectly matched by the vibrant coloured flowers, accessories, containers, and the structures and shapes of lush foliage.
A vote of thanks for given for an entertaining evening and the beautiful flower arrangements prior to ending the evening with a cuppa.
On our penultimate demonstration night before the summer break we had Julia Loudon from Earlston with her title "A Spell of Wizardry" Julia who has a great love of the Harry Potter novels based all her arrangements around the character. As Julia worked she regaled us with amusing stories which were greatly enjoyed by all. Everyone was hoping to win any one of the 7 arrangements.
We also had Linda Wallace from Auchincruive Flower Club who came to encourage us to to attend or even better to enter the floral classes at this years Ayr Flower Show, 16th and 17th August at Ayr Racecourse.
The evening ended with a welcome cup of tea. Our next meeting on 22nd June will be our AGM at 6 50pm followed by a demonstration by Christine Logan from Ayrshire. All welcome.
For our March meeting we welcomed Jane Gordon from Elderslie and her demonstration title was "From Coast To Country". Jane gave us 5 arrangements alternating from the coast and then country, at the end of each arrangement we had a piece of music that matched the theme, all well known tunes to which we all hummed or sang along to. Jane gave us lots of very useful hints and tips as she arranged and her knowledge of the names of all her plant material was superb. After the drawing of the raffle a welcome cup of tea was served and members wished a safe journey home.
At our latest meeting, good friend to the club, Fiona Wilson came along to tutor members who were asked to bring along an unusual/favourite container and a bunch of flowers. All who attended enjoyed the challenge (and the chat). Fiona gave great advice to each of us in turn and the results can be seen below. All different. A great night all round.
Our next meeting in Wednesday 27th March we have Jane Gordon from Elderslie whose demonstration title will be "Coast and Country". All welcome.
Our first meeting of 2024 saw Kirsty McIntosh from Kirstie's Flowers of Troon come to us with her demonstration entitled "Winter Wonders".
Kirsty used wonderful containers for all of her six arrangements and gave us lots of hints and tips as she worked. She also told us how she progressed to the premises that she currently operates her business from.
Our next meeting is a practical class with Fiona Wilson that has a change of date from the norm. The meeting will be on Tuesday 27th February in the upstairs hall of Girvan Community Centre at 7pm. Anyone who wishes to come along is asked to bring along a favourite/unusual container, a bunch of flowers and a pair of secateurs. The club will supply foliage and foam if required.
Girvan Flower Club held their Christmas open night in the Community Centre and was well attended with a lovely buzz of chat before and after the demonstration which, this year was from James Gemmel from JG Flowers – Mauchline- this was a return visit from James who come to the club pre covid. His title was "Festive Surprise".
James gave us lots of stories about his flower arranging experiences, in particular weddings. He spoke about how he got in to flower arranging in the first place and how he has progressed to where he is today, including renovating his house! James has a "laid back" and "wing it" attutude which has clearly got him to winning the Regional and National Wedding Florist of the Year 2023, we could see why.
The October meeting saw Pamela Galloway from Limekilns, Fife come to the club to share her demonstration entitled "Afternoon Tea Ma'am".
Pamela shared her stories from 5 of her favourite afternoon tea venues, these included Old Course Hotel - St Andrews, Gleneagles Hotel, The Reid's Palace - Madeira, Cromlix House - Dunblane and her ultimate favourite The Balmoral Hotel- Edinburgh. Pamela gave us lots of funny stories to accompany each arrangement which everyone enjoyed.
A welcome cup of tea followed the demonstration. A reminder that our Christmas Open night is on 22nd November in the Community Centre at 7pm when we have James Gemmell from Mauchline. Tickets are available from The Pet Store, Girvan.
The opening night of the club came on the night of Storm Agnes when our numbers were understandably depleted. We welcomed Linda Souter from Dunfermline whose title was "Reflections". Linda had great chat as she worked and each arrangement reflected an experience Linda has had along her life path. Her containers played a major role in her arrangements.
As usual the audience were eager to win one of the arrangements to take home.
We also welcomed Violet Connor along to the club to accept a cheque on behalf of CAN as the Flower Clubs good cause.
